Kamal expulsion fallout: NC getting divided in two camps | Dissident MLAs, party workers call on Kamal, Omar in damage control mode | | Asif Iqbal Naik JAMMU, Nov 26: The inevitable political fallout of what is being seen as dictatorial attitude of NC high command is coming to fore. Anger within the National Conference rank and file has started getting bigger and louder by the day over 'unceremonious' removal of Mustafa Kamal by his brother Dr Farooq Abdullah. A large chunk of party is looking at it as Dr Farooq humiliating his brother for the sake saving the chair of his son Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The result: NC getting divided in two camps, though in an undeclared manner. Sources said party workers in hordes including some dissident party MLAs have been continuously calling on Dr.Mustafa Kamal at his Jammu residence to show their sympathies and support for the 'ousted' leader. This has apparently become a cause of worry for CM Omar Abdullah who is now seen in damage control mode after Mustafa Kamal made harsh talk and blamed him for his ouster. Even though Omar Abdullah through his Twitter messages has been trying to clear the air and rather putting the blame on his father for expulsion of Dr. Kamal from the post of NC chief spokesperson as well as from the post of the addition general secretary but this doesn't seem to be working well given the fact more and more cadres are seen by the side of Kamal. Omar on November 22 Twitted "He's my uncle and I have the greatest respect for him. This matter is between him and my father, no reason to drag me into it." The tweet post clearly shows Omar Abdullah is already in the damage control mode after the controversy hit the National Conference camp. According to sources, the party workers and 8 MLAs have assured Dr. Kamal, that whatever decision he takes, they will support him. Soon after the reports of dissident MLAs reached Omar Abdullah's camp without wasting any time, Omar Abdullah's close friend and political advisor, Davinder Singh Rana along with Provincial President NC Jammu Ved Rattan Gupta held a meeting with these MLAs at Ritz Manor hotel as a damage control exercise to set the NC house in order and ensure complete unity. The same sources said that the MLAs have exhibited their unhappiness over the way he (Mustafa Kamal) was ousted from the party spokesperson's post. These dissident party leaders have sent a strong signal to both father and son, in case they fail to retract on their decision, the party could be serious trouble. |
