PDP concerned over increasing corruption in state | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Nov 27:
Expressing his concern over the increasing level of corruption, senior Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Shahzad Khan said that the central rural developmental programmes under Bharat Nirman have been given a brutal death by the present coalition government due to its mismanagement and corrupt practices. Khan was addressing a meeting of party workers in Rajouri wherein among other things; they discussed the increasing level of unemployment and corruption. In a press release issued today, Shahzad said that the present coalition government has failed to keep up its promise of providing job to at least one middle passed unemployed youth in each household. He said that the government started the Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for the Youth (SKEWPY), but it failed miserably as there are very few takers of the Voluntary Service Allowance (VSA). In Rajouri district under the VSA of SKEWPY, the total beneficiaries were 1200 out of the 30,037 registered youth since the inception of the programme. Criticising the New Recruitment Policy, Shahzad said that is not only anti-youth and against the spirit of the Constitution but is also demeaning education and the educated youth. It is straight away denying “equal wages for equal work” as envisaged in Article 14 and 15 (1) of the Constitution. He said it is unfortunate that the students demanding their rights are brutally crushed and beaten up by police. PDP leader further warned the government to mend its policies and stop pushing the youth towards protests and agitations. Regretting over the poor economy, Shahzad reiterated that this state could be the richest and most developed in entire country had the water resources were harnessed and the power so generated were utilized by the state. He said it was unfortunate that instead of endorsing the PDP’s demand for return of power projects like Salal, Dulhasti, and Uri, the present National conference led government has entered into another agreement with NHPC that would again hit the state’s interests.
