2-Day ‘PRAVAH’ dance festival concludes

JAMMU, NOVEMBER, 27, 2011: The two day ‘PRAVAH’ dance and music festival, which commenced at Abhinav theatre here on Saturday, concluded today. Organised by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in association with India International Rural Cultural Centre, New Delhi the festival featured famous Indian dance forms like Odissi and Kathak.
At the concluding ceremony member secretary IRCEN, PL Verma presented memento to Academy additional secretary, Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn and thanked the Academy for collaborating with IRCEN for the two day event.
On the concluding day today Odissi dance performers led by noted dancer Ispita Bahura enthralled the audience with their dance performance. Others who performed alongside Ispita included Gitanjali Acharya, Mani Karnika, Anita Rao and Sunita Biswal. The male performers included Sameer Kumar and Dilip Kumar.
Earlier welcoming the guests, additional secretary Cultural Academy, Savita Bakshi said that associating with IRCEN for the festival was part of Academy’s policy and as an institution Academy would continue to play this role.
Airing her feelings Odissi dancer Ispita Bahura said that she had never been to Jammu before this performance and was delighted to be here. Bahura, who is a well known Odissi dancer, enjoys the distinction of having performed in countries like Norway, United Kingdom, Nepal and Bangladesh.
The final day of the two day festival was witnessed by a large gathering representing different segments of society. As part of the concluding day activity, IRCEN and Academy representatives comprising PL Verma, Pallavi Guha, Savita Bakshi and Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn felicitated the dancers.
The programme proceedings were conducted by senior drama instructor of Academy, Dr. Sudhir Mahajan while additional secretary, Academy, Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn coordinated the event.
