| Pathania calls for re-cast of education committees after panchayat elections | | |

RAMNAGAR , November 27 : R S Pathania, a distinguished lawyer and a prominent Youth Congress leader decried poor educational facilities in Ramnagar.
He charged that Education Department is deliberately allowing the Village Education Committees to run in violation of Government order dated 21-08-09 which specifies as to what shall be the parameters and composition of education committees.
It gives full weightage and importance to elected representatives of Panchayats and explicitly lays that a sarpanch or naib-sarpanch and in the absence of a literate sarpanch / naib-sarpanch, a retired teacher shall be chairman of a Village Education Committee. But after the conduction of Panchayat elections, the newly-elected sarpanches are being debarred from the educational activities of the village because they are yet to be designated to be chairmen of Village Education Committees of their respective villages.
Pathania appealed immediate overhauling of these Education Committees which are the very backbone of education-related activities, especially under SSA.
He also accused local MLA of upgrading schools on purely political considerations – projecting less deserving schools at the cost of more deserving ones.
Majority of schools in the area without adequate teaching staff, laboratories and libraries, playgrounds and other requisite infrastructure.
