CM, his colleagues raking controversial issues: Prof Chaman | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 27: Assailing the ruling leaders for not paying due attention to several burning problems facing the common man, the former Union Minister and MLA Prof Chaman Lal Gupta observed that the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and some of his colleagues are working overtime in raking up controversial issues like that of AFSPA, which have little relevance with the prevailing situation. Moreover, making security related matters including the powers of the army, an issue of public debate virtually amounted to demonizing the forces, ran counter to the national interests. Pointing out to the serious problems facing the people, Prof Gupta said that the traffic jams have come to be a big headache, especially in this capital city of Jammu but it is surprising that no serious effort appears to be there to overcome this problem which is affecting the life on many accounts including the wastage of time, costly fuel and above all polluting the environment to the health hazards. To overcome this serious situation a number of measures are required to be taken up. These also include the construction of flyovers but strangely enough already approved such projects are being shelved just to guard the interests of certain elements. Other issues, he said, also include the rectifying the public distribution system of rations, soaring prices, growing unemployment, sanitation, awful conditions of the roads, overloading, improvement in the supply of electricity, drinking water and that of prevailing chaotic conditions in educational institutions especially the schools etc. All these needed to be rectified with special attention of the Government.
