Administrative approval for works within 10 days: Baig

Srinagar, July 31 – In order to ensure financial discipline and pace up the works, the government has decided to ensure that administrative approvals and technical sanctions are accorded by the planning and finance departments within ten days.
This was disclosed by Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Baig while intervening in the question hour in Legislative Council today.
He said the issue of delay in according administrative approvals to the project works has come to the notice of the Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad and on his advice recently at a high level meeting it was decided to speed up the process of administrative approvals of the works to be taken up for execution.
Mr. Baig said similarly it has also been directed to the concerned departments to accord administrative approvals for the works to be taken up within ten days. He said a need was felt to ensure financial discipline as it was reported that a number of works have been executed without the administrative approval and technical sanction from the government. He said the project cost limit while according administrative approval has also been increased so that these are accorded within the shortest period of time. He hoped that things would improve in the coming month or so.
The Deputy Chief Minister said it was also decided to weed out the non-viable schemes which linger on for decades without any substantial benefit to the people.
In reply to questions by Mr. Bilal Ahmed Lodhi, Mr. G. N. Lone and Mr. Nazir Ahmed Mir, the Deputy Chief Minister said that all the tourism potential areas will be assessed and their development programmes would be initiated in consultation with the Legislators. He said government is giving highest priority to identify and develop new tourist areas and give fillip to the tourism sector.
Action against tax defaulters: Baig
There are about 1514 defaulters in the state against whom sales tax arrears of Rs. 3 lakhs or above are recoverable. Approximately Rs. 5, 29, 53.90 lakhs is realizable from these defaulters. Action for recovery of the tax as provided under Section 16/16-A of GST Act and section 61-64 of land Revenue Act stands initiated against the defaulters.
This information was given by the Finance Minister Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Baig in reply to a question of Mr. Abdul Gani Vakil in Legislative Council today. He said an amount of Rs.25893.54 lakhs and Rs. 27060.36 lakhs has been realized from defaulters of Kashmir division and Jammu division respectively.
