Farooq begins wooing annoyed party workers, forgets NC's past record

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 27: Purportedly alarmed by New Delhi's annoyance, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and President of National Conference (NC) Dr. Farooq Abdullah has begun wooing party workers across the state.
An old hawk of Jammu and Kashmir politics, Farooq Abdullah knows well about the mood swings of New Delhi. Observers affirm that the NC patron has smelled something fishy and it is because of this reason that he has left his Union Ministry assignment to his secretary and returned to the state to rejuvenate NC's demoralized cadre.
He knows well that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's three year action packed tenure has left deep scars on the minds of commoners across the state apart from demoralizing the political cadre of National Conference (NC). Farooq has begun parroting the need for strengthening coalition between National Conference and Congress.
It is for the first time in the last three years that NC is talking about strengthening the coalition and saying that coalition represents the aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir and it would work in coordination and unity to serve the state and fulfill the commitments made to people. He chose a public meeting at Mahanpur in Basholi area of Kathua district to make these pronouncements.
NC patron cautioned the people about the propaganda unleashed by some elements against the coalition and its working. He said that design of these elements is to create misunderstanding in the rank and file of both the parties and fish in the troubled waters for vested interests. He forgot to remind the same gathering that it was his brother and ex-party Additional general secretary who targeted Congress viciously.
Dr. Farooq asked workers of both the parties to foil such designs and work in tandem at all levels to address public grievances and carry forward the development policy of the government. He forgot to make a mention of the policy he was talking about. Dr.Farooq is conscious of the fact that New Delhi is annoyed with staggered pace of development in Jammu and Kashmir.
He knows that Congress is likely to review its relationship with NC a little before January 5. He castigated PDP for gimmickry and politicking and said that their only aim is to exploit the sentiments of people on one or the other pretext. However, the old hawk needs to be reminded about 'Sabz Romal' and 'Pakistani Namak', which NC would often use to entice Kashmiri vote bank. None has forgotten 'Rawalpindi Jana Hai slogan'.
"Tamasha baazi and slogan raising just to attack public attention for gaining popularity has been hallmark of National Conference (NC). People are well-versed with their political style and exploitation. They have rejected this party once for all," said political observer while adding that the public in Jammu and Kashmir are well aware of the fact how NC sabotaged the 1989 elections and threw the state into a quagmire.
"This all was aimed at grabbing power by exploitation mechanism which the NC is known for," stressed the observer. He said that NC betrayed trust of people of Jammu and Kashmir when it preferred not to leave NDA after the Gujarat carnage. "How can they talk about saboteurs when they are known for this trait across the state? They sabotaged peace and damaged the secular fabric of the state," added the observer.
