Western Disturbances stay away; chillier days ahead | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Nov 28: Chillier days are in store for the people of Kashmir valley as Western Disturbances (WD), originating from the Arabian sea, stayed away from the region. Srinagar, world famous health resort of Pahalgam, ski resort of Gulmarg and Leh witnessed coldest night of the season after the minimum temperature dipped further this morning. The temperature is likely to go further down in the Kashmir valley in the coming days, Regional Met department director Sanam Lotus told UNI. He said, this was not anything abnormal as temperature goes down during this period. "We have been witnessing such graph of temperature during the past ten years," he said adding it was normal. Mr Lotus said, "we are expecting WD from Arabian sea through Afghanistan and Pakistan on November 2 which could have resulted in snow or rains in the region." The WD will stay away from the region and there would be no major change in the weather, which will remain dry, he pointed out. He warned that dry weather will result in further drop in the temperature in the coming days. The day temperature will remain above normal. Doctors have advised elderly people and children to stay inside during early morning and late night hours because of cold.
Long queues of patients, including women, the elderly and children could be seen outside the private clinics, health centres and hospitals in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley. Majority patients suffer from bad cold, chest infection, headache and throat infection. Patients suffering from joint problems feel more pain due to cold, doctors said. People in the Kashmir valley consume medicine worth more than Rs 400 crore annually.
