Three day workshop on ‘Child Rights’ concludes | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, November 28 : A Three day workshop on ‘Child Rights Issues, problems and Interventions ‘ was organized by Sahyog India in collaboration with Child Rights and You (CRY), New Delhi, from November 28. While speaking in the inaugural session, A K Gupta, IAS, Special Secretary Culture and Tourism J &K, highlighted that nearly two million children below the age five die in India every year. Ratio of males verses females per thousand has further deteriorated. These questions are directly related to the child right to survival. He further reiterated that the role and coordination of various agencies such as NGOs, Government and civil society are very important. Dr Ashwani Jojra, Sahyog India in his welcome address mentioned the various national and international agencies associated with child rights, especially the role of Child Rights and You (CRY), New Delhi which is operational in 19 states of India. Dr D R Kapoor, Sayog India, explained the objectives and schedule of a three day workshop. The focus of the workshop was on basic issues of child right to survival, right to protection from exploitation and discrimination, fundamental right to education and right to participation. Dr Sunita Jaalpuri , Associate Professor IMPA, Professor Dr B L Raina , HOD MIER P G Department of Education, Dr D R Kapoor , Jasmeet Singh (CDPO) were the resource persons for the conduct of workshop on Child Rights.
