BJP concerned over mounting resentment among business community | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 28Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has expressed serious concern about the mounting resentment among the business community of the state over the issue of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and the opening of an FDI outlet in Jammu recently. Expressing the party’s full support to the business and trade community of the state, BJP State President Shamsher Singh Manhas said that the party will not allow any such hasty decision which increases unemployment among the traders and the workers in the business sector. Manhas said that the decision to allow Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail would adversely impact the retail sector and put the nation’s entire food chain system into the hands of foreign firms. He said the BJP strongly feels that the government’s lopsided move was against the interests of traders as well as the farmers. He said that in the past East India Company had shattered the whole economy of the country and now such decisions by the UPA government will repeat the same story. BJP State Chief said that our economy at present, is dominated by the service sector. The services sector account for 58 percent of India’s GDP. The retail chains in India, both small and big, account for a major segment of the Services sector. Self-employment in India is the single largest source of jobs. Foreign Direct Investment will have an adverse impact on our domestic retail sector, which is growing. Manhas said that the BJP would oppose the Congress-led UPA’s decision tooth and nail and while supporting December 1 Bharat bandh, would urge other parties to join the bandh proposed by various traders’ organizations.
