Deployment of Kashmiri Hindus by the separatists and the government | New Fifth Column | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 28: In a current affairs programme on a national television channel a Kashmiri Hindu was seen as launching a scathing attack on the AFPSA and advocating for its revocation. This person, not well known within Kashmiri Hindu community or beyond it, is working outside and was being flaunted by the NDTV India as an expert on the subject as well as an impartial observer of the civil society. A Kashmiri Hindu attacking AFPSA could be music to the separatists' ears and has the potential of confusing the national opinion which has till now upheld the role of Armed Forces as exemplary and also supported the AFSPA act in Jammu and Kashmir as well as north east. To the Kashmiri Hindu community to which he belongs, his performance was shocking as it was to all other nationalists. Internally displaced Hindus were dumbfounded when he told the anchor that displacement of Kashmiri Hindus at the hands of armed separatists was not a human rights issue, while the so- called abuse of AFPSA was a gross violation. In recent days, we have seen the mushrooming of such faces working as over-ground fronts for the government as well as political parties seeking to implement their policies of compromise with the separatist establishment. Not long before during the stone pelting agitation in Kashmir, we saw a Kashmiri Hindu working as the public face of Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party in Kashmir valley, as advocating repeal of the AFPSA and criticizing the army. Almost all political formations in Kashmir Valley have suddenly woken up to discover their secular moorings and install pliable Kashmiri Hindus as their spokespersons to publicly defend their pro-separatist, anti-India, as well as communal agenda. The Kashmiri Hindu spokesman of one Kashmir-based political party publicly criticized his own community and asked them to conform to the changed times and support a solution to the problems in Jammu and Kashmir which is more than autonomy and just less than Azadi. The spokesman was given the political assignment perhaps on the confidence that he will go to any extent to defend the party line on Jammu and Kashmir and not on the basis of any political or social work he has rendered in the state. He has never been seen even to work at a temple or Mohalla level committees of his own community not to speak of the bigger social and political arena. National Conference brought a retired Kashmiri Hindu bureaucrat to defend its sectarian agenda with the promise of making him a minister in the present government. And the retired civil servant is continuing to do their bidding in spite of being publicly humiliated by the party leaders on several occasions. As the corruption in the Relief Organisation is agitating the minds of internally displaced Kashmiri Hindus in the camps, this NC leader was first to come to the support of the Relief organisation to the utter dismay of the constituency he was supposed to serve. The strategy of using willing Kashmiri Hindus as a front for the government as well as the pro-separatist campaign in the state became manifest during the stone pelting campaign when a pro- separatist TV channel NDTV started organizing current affairs programs in which Kashmiri Hindus living in the valley were given prominence knowing very well that they may not be able to oppose the dominant views of Kashmir. The campaign of using Kashmiri Hindus as a fifth column against Kashmiri Hindus as well as India is a reality and lot of investment is being made in the affair by certain elements in the political establishment. Pick choosing individuals to earn quick buck or publicity has now taken the shape of a political maneuver. While organisations amongst Kashmir Hindus like Panun Kashmir are striving day and night to uphold the national cause, these individuals are being projected as the faces of their community to crate space for the separatist cause. When a recent journal published by India International Center (IIC) published papers by two Kashmiri Hindu scholars working outside India in which Muslim separatist line was defended it was very clear that the campaign has wider ramifications and a segment of academic fraternity of Kashmiri Hindus was also being mobilized for the cause. Americans must have busted one Fai circuit. But in India there are many such circuits drawing their life line from the system within to damage India. And it is not just some pliable Kashmiri Hindus who are involved in mercenary role for the government or the separatists; there are many Indians and Hindus in Jammu and rest of India who form part of a well-oiled subversive establishment. The biggest irony has been that even the institutions like army have been engaging and seeking advice and guidance from such elements from time to time. |
