This Government has failed on all fronts and has lost its total credibility as it has negated all the good works and process started for gaining peoples confidence by his government, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed told reporters here today. He while complimenting the former Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee for starting a peace mission in the state during his visit in 2003 said, when former PM came to Srinagar he was told people of valley that they wanted peace and nothing else. And the initiative taken by his Government was a turning point, he added. Later former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani convened twice talks with militants to further the peace process, he said, adding the purpose of coalition of then Congress and PDP Government was also to further this peace process and it worked on the same principles. ``Our coalition worked for instilling confidence among the people of militancy ravaged state'', he said, adding had the people of the state given some more seats to the party the situation could have been better in the state. Lashing out at coalition Government he said its misgovernence has increased alienation in the state and accused it of eroding the sanctity of democratic institutions in the state. The delay in over due elections to the municipal corporations and local bodies which were due since 2009 is a testimony to the fact. Mr Sayeed said the State Accountability Commission, Vigilance Commission and Recruitment Board have lost their credibility after the Omar Abdullah led Government came to power and alleged that revocation of AFSPA, formation of Truth and Reconciliatory Commission and resolution on clemency to Afzal Guru are nothing but a gimmick. Mufti while stressing that improvement of Indo-Pak ties are in the larger interests of the people of the state, said that Pakistan has also realized that it can't take on India which is one of the largest democracies of the world. He also lauded the steps taken by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in improving relations with Pakistan. Maintaining that dialogue is must to resolve present impasse in the state, the former Chief Minister said that the talks must be held in the framework of constitution. Expressing apprehensions over the appointment of Justice Bedi to probe killing of NC leader Mohammed yousf shah who had made some startling revelations in vote for cash scam, Mufti said PDP doubts that how Justice Bedi can probe the NC workers death and demanded that an independent Commission be appointed in this regard. He also accused the Congress party of having double standards on the issue and demanded that facts about the death of Mr Shah should come to fore and people should know the truth. Asking people to be ready in solving their problems themselves instead of looking to Delhi, Mufti said ``when the people in UP, Bihar and other states are themselves decide their fate why not we''. |
