Early Times Report
R S PURA , November 29 : : Flaying NC-Congress regime has adopting anti-farmers’ policies, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today regretted that the present government headed by Omar Abdullah has failed to solve the problems being faced by the farming community of the State.
Addressing series of public meetings in Suchetgarh assembly segment, former Rajya Sabha member and vice president of PDP Trilok Singh Bajwa attacked coalition regime for not taking farmers’ woes seriously.
He said that cost of the fertilizers has increased manifold during the last some months but government has failed to increase Maximum Support Price (MSP) of farmers’ produce. He mentioned that failure of the government to set up procurement centers to purchase paddy from the farmers speaks anti-farmers attitude of the present regime.
He regretted that due to non availability of procurement centers farmers are forced to sell their produce on low prices. He said that price of the world famous Basmati of R S Pura is less than this year as compared to the last years despite the fact that cost of fertilizers has increased.
Bajwa said that due to causal approach of the government farmers are forced to sell their produce on very low price. He further said that farmers whose crops were affected due to hail-storms are yet to get compensation. The affected farmers have been moving from pillars to posts but no compensation has been given to them. He regretted that instead of giving compensation, the authorities are harassing them one or other way.
While highlighting woes of the farmers on border areas, Bajwa further said that compensation to farmers, whose land was affected due to fencing on the borders, has not given yet.
He said that during the last three years misery of farming community has compounded. He strongly demanded that R S Pura, which is rice bowl of the State, be declared as Basmati Zone and solution of the long pending demands of the farmers.
