| Improving basic facilities in snow bound, cut off areas priority of govt: Azad | | | Srinagar, January 10 Chief Minister Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that government is paying higher attention on creation of up-to-date road communication, educational facilities, healthcare arrangements and employment generation in backward, far-flung areas and places which remain cut off during winter on account of snow and closure of passes. Addressing a largely attended public gathering at Machil today, Mr. Azad said that there is a dire need to improve basic facilities in such areas and government is striving hard in this regard. He said that there are several places which remain cut off for more than 6 months and people living in these far-flung areas have to encounter difficulties on various counts. If Srinagar–Jammu highway gets closed for two days or Doda-Jammu road for one day, people start feeling the pinch and one can imagine the difficulties of people of places which remain cut off from the district and even tehsil headquarter for long durations in these areas feel problems on account of medicines, doctors, education, electricity and warm clothing and we have to find answer to these problems, Chief Minister said. He said Machil would be granted status of block headquarter in view of it remaining cut off for more than 6 months in a year. He said that this would ease the difficulties of the people faced by them to a large extent. Chief Minster said that added attention will be paid to provide better medicare facilities to people of areas like Machil focussing on providing adequate medical facilities to expecting mothers. Mr Azad announced that during coming April-May, an on the spot recruitment drive will be conducted for youth of the area. He said the Agriculture Department would explore possibility of procuring potatoes from the farmers to give impetus to the local economy. MLA Lolab Mr. Kaiser Jamsheed Lone, MLA Karnah Mr Kafeel-Ur-Rehman, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Mr Basharat Ahmed and Deputy Commissioner Kupwara also accompanied the Chief Minster during his visit to the Machil area.
