Posts lying vacant in Education department | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Nov 29: A newly formed association of teachers Tuesday said that thousands of teaching and non-teaching posts were vacant in the Education Department. “Chairman SSB recently said that there were 37 junior assistant posts vacant in Srinagar district. When we asked him about other posts, he revealed that there are thousands of vacancies in the department,” chairman of the Association, Showket Ahmad Bhat, told reporters here. Releasing their ‘Vision Document’, the Association president said, “We demand inclusion of five years service in case of ReT’s and seven years in case EV’s in their service record. We also demand increase in the honorarium of ReT’s from Rs 1500 to Rs 3000 per month,” he added. Bhat claimed that there primary aim was to re-organize the Association and make it a movement. “The issues of teachers are getting unheard and with no attention. We have come on a platform to redress basic and genuine demands,” he said. He also demanded the enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 62 years on the pattern of Delhi Government. Other demands raised during meeting include revival of senior teacher grade, establishment of teachers welfare fund, reduction of qualifying service to 21 years, winter training/ orientation programmes to be given earned leave benefits on the pattern of 3/7 formula instead of merger enumeration and reduction in the rate of interest on personal consumption loans by the Banks.
