| Sahni must not be given any extension: Vikas | | Sahni- Pathania nexus required to be exposed: | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Nov 29: The National Secular Forum (NSF) has asked from Jammu University (JU) Vice Chancellor Varun Sahni as to why he granted extension to the tainted Registrar in the month of July.
Addressing a press conference here today, NSF president Vikas Sharma said, "The State Government had ordered enquiry into the University affairs in the month of June and the same was communicated to the Vice Chancellor as well. He was aware that the name of the then Registrar P S Pathania figured in the enquiry. There were several allegations of irregularities against him. Despite of that Vice Chancellor personally went to the office of Governor and pleaded Pathania's case for extension."
Pathania's substantive tenure as Controller Examination ended in the month of July.
Thereafter, he had to quit the post of Registrar and join back as Deputy Registrar.
But, the Vice Chancellor did his best to save his position as Registrar.
Sharma questioned that why Vice Chancellor was so worried about Pathania. The involvement of VC in the extension of Pathania hints that former is also involved in the financial bunglings of Jammu University.
Sharma demanded that Pathania, who is currently on deputation to Central University of Jammu as OSD Administration be removed immediately.
Vikas Sharma further said there are many teaching departments in the University that are facing severe crunch of teaching staff. But, the Vice Chancellor is busy in conducting the interview for the post of lecturers only for selected cases.
It proves that Vice Chancellor is just exploiting the position for personal gains. He has some favourites whom he wants to get adjusted in the University system.
His term is nearing completion and just 8 days are left but instead of dignified exit he is trying to take maximum advantage of his position.
He was required to maintain status quo on the position as model code of conduct for the Vice Chancellor.
He need to explain that why he is so concerned for the conduct of interview that too for selective positions. Also, the Vice Chancellor owes explanation to the people of Jammu that why campuses have not been developed despite passage of so many years. Only Bhaderwah campus is developed while the rest of ten campuses are either not functioning or functioning from make shift arrangements.
Besides, Vice Chancellor Varun Sahni must not be given another term or any sort of extension.
Among those who were present in the press conference included Surjit Choudhary district chairman, Ravi Choudhary district president,Sukdev Singh state secretary, Shafqat Malik chairman Jammu University, Sunil Sharma chairman city unit and Sunny Babber.
