| Lecture on “Present Scenario of Urdu in Jammu Province “ held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Nov 29: Shohab Inayat Malik HOD Urdu University of Jammu delivered a thought provoking lecture here today in the department of Urdu Kashmir University.
The topic of the lecture was “Present Scenario of Urdu in Jammu Province”.
The function was presided over by Dean Faculty of Arts Kashmir University Nazir Ahmed Malik.
A large number of students, faulty member s and civil society member attended the function.
In his lecture Shohab Inayat Malik informed that Urdu flourished in Jammu Province during the regime of Dogra Rulers.
It was Maharaja Ranbir Singh who established a literary organization Vidya Vilas Shabha. During the tenure of Maharaja Ranbir Singh Urdu language became popular in Jammu region. It was Maharaja Pratap Singh who made Urdu the official language of the state informed Shohab.
He further added that after 1947 Urdu was neglected by the successive state government in Jammu province. He said that most of the primary and higher secondary schools in Jammu province are facing acute problems of Urdu teachers.
He further said that most of the sign boards in Jammu province had not been written in the official language.
The government is neglecting the Urdu deliberately. Keeping in view all the circumstances there are several literary Urdu organizations like Rasa Javedani Memorial literary society, Anjum-e-Farog-e-Urdu, Adbi Kunj, Anjum-e-Tareqi Hind had kept urdu alive in Jammu province.
These organizations are doing a tremendous role for the promotion of urdu language in Jammu
Shohab Inayat Malik the department of Urdu, University of Jammu had excelled academically as well as infra-structurally. Bushra conducted the proceeding of the program while Kousar presented a formal vote of thanks.
