NC now sheds tears for coalition | Theater of the absurd! | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 29: National Conference leaders today urged their workers to work for strengthening ties with Congress. They were addressing a function of party workers at the party headquarters. While political circles hailed their concern for saving the coalition rule, the speech of a leader evoked a sarcastic response from political circles. According to them he was responsible for causing cracks in the party. "He annoyed two most powerful and influential leaders to the extent that one of them ignored Chief Minister's phone calls", they said. His tirade against the other was equally resented by the workers. A NC worker while responding to his comment said: "A person who believes in` divide and rule' policy talks of making the coalition strong. He set his own party on fire last year under Chief Minister's nose. " The other speaker whose remarks were taken with a pinch of salt talked about NC's people friendly policies. The party, for his information, made life of political activists difficult in 1947 when NC took over the administration. The NC was responsible for extending laws like Public Safety Act (PSA), POTA, Disturbed Area Act and Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) to the state. "Last year 120 boys got killed in police firing. Minors have been detained under PSA. This has tarnished the image of the country at the international level", said a school teacher. Furthermore, the party (NC) has been instrumental in making Jammu Kashmir a `police state'. This is what a NC MP recently said. He was allegedly harassed by a police officer. He came public on the issue when, according to him, the Chief Minister nor any other person from the party paid any heed to his woes. "If this happens to an MP, the plight of the commoner can only be imagined", he said. |
