Good Samaritans help in Pak kid’s life-saving surgery
11/30/2011 11:19:19 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Nov 30 Fund raising campaign by good Samaritans helped to save life of Pakistani kid who was suffering with a rare congenital heart defect – tricuspid artesian – in which a vertical of the heart is missing since birth.
Three-year-old Zahid from Pakistan was brought to India by his parents for surgery. His family had built an emotional connection with many humanitarian souls from all walks of life and particularly Sikh community from Punjab, Delhi and Shabnamjeet Singh from Finland.
Employees of the Airports Authority from Srinagar International Airport also contributed whole heartedly for the noble cause. J S Sandal, senior manager (HR) in Airports Authority of India with his modest means, started collecting money for funding the life saving surgery of Zahid.
“We had lost all hopes when we were told by the doctor to take away the child as they said his condition was serious and would not improve. But somebody told us about Dr. Rajesh Sharma and then Sandal ji came as God’s messenger to us,” Zahid’s family said in an emailed statement.
In 2009 Zahid’s parents Shahid Mahmood and Madiha, were shattered when a pediatric surgeon at Lahore’s Children’s Hospital gave up hope after Zahid was diagnosed with a faulty heart during his treatment for pneumonia.
While the child was first operated upon on February, 2009, the second successful surgery was done by Dr. Rajesh Sharma on July 29 in Delhi’s Fortis Escorts Heart Institute.
In this case in the Holy month of Ramzan Good Samaritans came together to help this Muslim family offering them support. With the noble gesture of Dr. M S Gill, Rajya Sabha Member from Holy City Amritsar, Malvinder Singh of Delhi’s Fortis Escorts Heart Institute waived off a large portion of Medical Bill
After getting discharged from the Hospital, Guru Harkishan Sahib Langar Sewa Jatha arranged for their stay in the Guest House of Gurudwara Bangla Sahib.
