EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Nov 30:As part of its on going campaign against corruption, misgovernance, human rights violation and harassment of youth the PDP is holding another round of protest rallies across Kashmir valley. These protest demonstrations will be held at Zone levels on December 24.
This was decided today at a joint meeting of senior party leaders, legislators, district and zone presidents of the party held under the chairman ship of party president Mehbooba Mufti.
The meeting discussed the problems faced by the people as a result of the complete failure of the coalition govt led by Omar Abdullah.
It was decided to hold demonstrations to protest against corruption and misgovernance at every level. The party has already held demonstrations at the provincial and district levels after the exposure of Haji Yousuf scandal relating to the corruption in Abdullah family.
In her address Mehbooba said the chief Minister Omar Abdullah had lost all moral authority to run a transparent and honest administration. “It was always known that Chief Minister’s Office has now become the fountain head of institutionalized corruption but Haji Yousuf episode had exposed the corrupt practices within the Abdullah family and misuse of the Chief Minister’s institution conclusively”. She said when the Chief Minister and his family have so much to answer how he can reign in his ministers or the corrupt officials, Mehbooba said. She added that the press reports every day suggest the involvement of the ministers in one or the other scams and the swelling size of their properties but for obvious reason there is no accountability. This, she said has travelled down the line to the junior most officials making the life of common man miserable.
Mehbooba said on the one hand electric supply has been reduced drastically and power is off for most of the time but on the other hand an exorbitant increase in tariff has been affected.
She said increasing the minimum monthly tariff for even the BPL families have been increased three fold month is not less than an atrocity. She said rations are being black marketed and there is no check on prices. The officially supplied Kerosene and sugar was sold mostly in black market and the ordinary consumer has been left to the open market where prices are beyond any control.
Stressing that the state has never had as inefficient and anti people govt as the present one, Mehbooba said it had failed to come up to the expectations of any one.
