Natrang organizing ‘Nagot Cultural Festival’ in Reasi

Jammu, Nov 30: Natrang is organizing the biggest ever cultural festival ‘nagot cultural festival’ featuring 900 (Nine Hundred) traditional artists in a hilly village Bakkal in the district of Reasi. The festival is being held from 10th to 12th of December, 2011 at the picturesque Dhol Devta in the village Bakkal.
This rarest cultural happening is supported by Ministry of Culture, Government of India, J&K Chief Minister’s Fund and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, J&K Government.
Elaborating details, Natrang director while addressing the media at Natrang Studio Theatre said that this initiative of Natrang is aimed at reviving the rich performing traditions of the region where the traditional artists coming from over two hundred villages will participate.
This effort will revive the age-old community celebrations like ‘Jater’ ‘Shinj’ and ‘Melas’ where thousands of people used to come together and celebrate the glory of their traditional art forms for nights together.
He further informed that this Festival is bound to become a global destination of the tourists for many reasons. The first reason is the showcasing of the rarest traditional forms like ‘Kud’ ‘Bhakhan’ ‘Goria’ ‘Chann’ ‘Chand’ ‘Masade’ ‘Dafle’ ‘Babua’ ‘Shinj’ and ‘Soiyan’ which are not found anywhere else. The second attraction is the place where this festival is going to happen is the same location where highest railway bridge of the world is coming up.
The pilgrimage to Shree Mata Vaishno Devi is about to touch a mark of one crore in a year and if we offer such avenues of rarest cultural happenings at a distance of about 40 Kilometers away from Katra that too in the picturesque surroundings, the fate of the area if bound to change and rich cultural performing heritage will get a new flip and world wide exposure.
Each day of the festival there will be one presentation by the artists coming from Jammu and in this series in addition to the performances by Natrang there will be presentations by Raman Salathia and group, Romalo Ram, and Rakesh Kona and his group which is supported by J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages. District administration and the District Police are providing full support to the event. District Development Commissioner, Reasi Sh. Pandurang Pole went all way to the Bakkal village to personally inspect the venue of the festival and also see the possibilities of putting up various stalls of the Government Departments for disseminating the public beneficial schemes.
Balwant Thakur thanked J&K Government for being very supportive and concerned for the success of this important event. All India Radio and Doordarshan has been requested to give wide coverage to this event to let the whole world know this unknown world of traditional artists.
