FDI in retail: Various organisations extend support to ‘Bharat Bandh’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 30:Various political and trade organisations have extended their support to the call for ‘Bharat Bandh' tomorrow to protest against the Union government's decision to allow 51 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail and 100 per cent FDI in single brand retail. Coming down heavily on the anti people and dictatorial policies of the Central and the State governments for allowing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the retail trade country, Jan Jagriti Manch (JJM) has decided to support the Bharat Bandh call being given by the traders against this decision. State President JJM, Parveen said that allowing Foreign Direct Investment in retail trade would destroy the livelihood of crores of small retailers in the country and the state will also bear the brunt. The decision will destroy the livelihood of crores of small retailers countrywide, and Jammu and Kashmir will also bear the brunt in view of its vast chain of retailers operating across its towns and villages. He said that in our country, about 20 crores of people were directly or indirectly associated with the retail trade. Parveen said the FDI players, the Multi National Corporations (MNCs) and their Indian collaborators have an eye over this business and the Union government succumbed to their pressure. JJM also appealed to the all sections of the society to support the Bandh against the FDI in retail trade. Shri Ram Sena has also decided to support Chamber of Commerce and Industries’ complete bandh against decision of UPA Government, for allowing FDI in retail. Shri Ram Sena demanded roll back of the decision of FDI in retail. While addressing members State President of Shri Ram Sena (J&K), Rajiv Mahajan expressed great concern and apprehension if the FDI allowed in the country. Mahajan said FDI in retail will render thousands and thousands of employees jobless Further the local trader will be affected substantially. Retail sector in our country is the back bone of small and medium section of the society due to which crores of persons earn their bread. Jammu Province People Forum (JPPF) in its meeting chaired by Retd. Judge Th. Pavitter Singh Bhardwaj President which was held at Party Office Palace Road Jammu has unanimously decided to support Chamber of Commerce and Industries’ bandh in protest against the decision of the Union Government to allow FDI in retail sector. Members were unanimous in the view that if allowed FDI in retail sector will result in closure of business of small and petty traders, farmers, wholesalers and commission agents and even the small scale industrial sector. Balwant Singh Mankotia MLA and State President Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party has announced support of his party to the Bharat bandh call. In statement issued here today, Mankotia urged Dr Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India to act boldly and daringly saying no to western conspiracy to colonize Indian economy under the new pretext in the name of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) which in fact is fraud on the development of India. He said that millions of people below the poverty line or on the poverty line earning livelihood for their families by running dhabas, community stores, reharies etc. shall be thrown out of their self-created jobs if the impending disaster called FDI is allowed to take place. He said so-called 51% of investment by Indians shall remain in the control of those holding illicit and black money. Mankotia said that voice of the people is voice of God and 99.99% people of India stand threatened by this notorious FDI. He further announced to support the Bharat Band Call given by different organizations, he also appealed the units of state to protest against the FDI policy at there head quarters.
