Prof Soch delivers lecture at MIER College of Education | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Nov 30:“He is a defeated man, who beats,” said Prof HS Soch, Former Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, while addressing the students and faculty of MIER College of Education during a guest lecture organized by the college under its ongoing programme of inviting distinguished educationists. The theme of the guest lecture was “My experiences as a Teacher”. Chairman MIER Group of Institutions, Dr. Arun K. Gupta chaired the session. Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER, HOD’s of various departments and other faculty members of M Ed and B Ed departments also graced the occasion. Dr. Annie Koul HoD B Ed Department welcomed the guest and introduced him as a dynamic leader and a teacher par excellence. She highlighted the achievements of Prof Soch especially in the field of education and the role he is playing even now for promoting the cause of quality education. Dr Soch narrated instances of his life which changed his outlook and personality. He traced his evolution as a teacher. He exhorted that teaching is his religion and that his religion does not draw any distinction between high and low, rich or poor. He said other factors that contributed to his development were his ability to learn both from the students as well as his role models, hard work and basic love for teaching. A good teacher always earns respect rather than command it. The session ended with a lively interaction with the students, in which Dr. Soch answered their queries in a succinct manner. In his presidential address, Dr. Arun Gupta said that Dr. Soch embodies the role of a mentor in the educational circles. He further remarked that a teacher has to touch the hearts of the students.
