Let people relish peace dividends: Omar | But where is peace Mr CM? | | Early Times Report RAFIABAD (Baramulla), Nov 30: The Chief Minister today said that his Government was determined to take peace dividends to the people. He was addressing a large public gathering at Rafiabad in Baramulla district of North Kashmir. "My Government has taken various measures on law and order front to inculcate sense of belonging in people and make them all-encompassing in the process of restoration of peace and development", he said adding that his endeavors in this direction would continue. "We have enhanced the role of Jammu and Kashmir Police in the maintenance of law and order", he said adding that removal of bunkers and reduction in the security forces were other important steps taken by the Government during last three years. Enhancing the role of the Jammu Kashmir police, the commoner believes has made the life of people hell. Arrest of 21 children in the age group of 10-13 years by the police speaks volumes about the quantum of peace that has returned to the trouble torn Valley. It also reflects the `sense of belonging' that the police has inculcated in the minds of the people. Had Omar reined in the police, the situation would have improved considerably, the people believe. Nobody wants to launch a malicious campaign against Omar's police force. But his own MP's statement must serve as an eye opener to him. The `mauled' MP said Jammu Kashmir was a police state. Omar also talked about his rehabilitation policy for return of youth from across the LoC. It seems the Chief Minister is unaware of some harsh ground realities. The rehabilitation policy could not take off as the Home Ministry refused to clear most of the persons on the list submitted by the state government. And as far as empowerment of Panchayats is concerned, it still remains a distant dream. Every day the newly elected Panches and Sarpanches hold protest demonstrations to make their presence felt. |
