Channi Himmat residents flay PDD for undue power curtailment
12/1/2011 10:04:23 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 1: Following today’s whole day power curtailment from 8.00 a.m to 6.00 p.m a meeting of Channi Himmat Residents Association was held today under the chairmanship of its president advocate V.K.Grover in which the members expressed deep anguish over repeated power curtailment enforced by the PDD on the pretext of carrying out repairs of system every now and then.
Even after putting the consumers to lot of inconvenience by these uncalled for disruptions in power supply by the department their system lacks proper functioning.
Weak and thin conductors with lots of patching further compound the problem by making entire system non-functional and non-sustenance.
Entire system has been left to the whims of the field staff without any monitoring by higher officials.
Recently installed electronic meters are being replaced by new ones despite their proper functioning giving an impression of duping state exchequer.
The colony is already equipped with electronic meters and paying sufficient electric revenue. These new meters should be installed in the areas not covered so far.
Moreover, this department has no check over power theft and leakages by the under-construction buildings and jugiwallas who are consuming most of the power free in connivance with the field staff of the department.
Government should take punitive remedial measures to check this menace.
The members also resolved to appeal to the high-tech and enthusiastic chief minister Omar Abdullah who holds the charge of PDD to launch its web portal so that the consumers’ latest bills are available to them on line and also arrangements should be made for accepting on-line payments of electricity dues.
This shall not only reduce the necessity of manpower and save precious time of J&K Bank Staff but also result in timely and adequate collection of power revenue.
