Trading community observe bandh against FDI in retail sector | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu Dec 1: The Traders and various non political organizations across the winter capital today expressed solidarity with Bharat Bandh against the government's decision to allow Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the retail sector and observed a bandh. Today to observe “Bharat Bandh” over the issue of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), BJP Beopar Cell and Industry Cell held a joint protest dharna at Purani Mandi Chowk of Jammu Old city to express full support to the bandh. Led by Jammu Distt President Rajesh Gupta, hundreds of party activists took out a protest march in Jammu city against the UPA’s decision on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). The march started from Raghunath Mandir Chowk and after passing through City Chowk, Kanak Mandi, Lakhdatta Bazar, Peermitha, Dakki Sarajan, Sehgal Chowk and Link Road, culminated at Purani Mandi Chowk, where a massive protest demonstration was also held demanding immediate withdrawal of the decision on FDI. While addressing the party activists, party leaders said that the decision by Congress-led UPA government to allow Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) upto 51 per cent in Indian retail market has drawn strong protests across the country, including those from opposition, business houses representing micro/macro level traders and even the members within the Congress party itself. He said that the party has always been with the traders, including retailers, wholesalers and small scale industrialists and assures that we will stand by them in every moment. Meanwhile the activists of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) under the leadership of their State President Munish Sharma held massive protest demonstration outside the recently opened “Best Price wall Mart” at Toph Sherkhania. Munish Sharma, in his address, said that the people have come on the streets lin lakhs in different parts of the country to observe bandh and protesting for the rights of the retailers. However huge police deployment foiled their bid to hold protest outside Bharti Walmart Best Price inaugurated recently by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The activists of National Secular Forum led by their state president Vikas Sharma staged a demonstration in university Campus against the UPA government for allowing Foreign Direct Investment in retail here today. The protestors raised slogans against UPA and demanded roll back on the decision of FDI in retail. Terming the central government's move as self-destructive which would allow companies like Walmart and Tesco to set up shop in the country, NSF state unit president Sharma said this would pose a danger to small businesses and village industry which in turn would lead to unemployment. The activist of the Shiv Sena and Dogra Front jointly staged protest against leadership of Ashok Gupta President Shiv Sena took out a procession from Parade Ground to Main Part of the City with empty utensils in their hands with the prominent businessmen of Jammu and appealing for Jammu Bundh and thanks the people of Jammu for their cooperation. “One East India Company started trading in India and was effective instrument in establishing British Rule in India. The political power was captured by British Govt and India faced slavery. And the recent decision our FDI allowing 51 % share to foreign investors in retail market has opened Pandara Box for Big Companies like Wan Mart and others will again ope an era of slavery, speakers said. In another protest Hindustan Shiv Sena activists staged demonstration against the FDI in retail policy of Govt. of India here in Jammu. Led by National President Dimpy Kohli,Vipin Hindu and Rakesh Kak expressed that despite so much opposition, hue and cry by millions of people related to small traders and Retailers is not bothered. Hindustan Shiv Sena warns Govt of India to desist from such experiments. He accused the government of spreading false propaganda that it will help the farmers and producers. 'Neither the consumers are benefited, nor the farmers. This is a false propaganda. There is absolutely no evidence that farmers have been benefited,' he said. Meanwhile Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCI) Jammu has extended its thanks to the business community for observing a complete peaceful and unprecedented bandh to protest against the decision of the Union Government to allow 100% foreign equity in single brand and 51% foreign equity in Multi-brands in retail sector. Spokesperson of CCI Jammu stated that overwhelming response from cross sections of the society clearly shows that people are totally against the entry of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector and that they also share the concern for 21 crores of people engaged in trade both wholesale and retail whose fate will be endangered once these multinationals are given free hands in retail sector as has happened in all the countries wherever these multinationals have been allowed to enter the retail sector. BJP unit Kathua today burnt the effigy of state and centre government at Mukharji Chowk Kathua for imposing the fresh recruitment rule in state and allowing the 51% FDI in retail sector. Led by the youth leader of BJP, Gopal Mahajan activists criticised state Govt and union Govt both have imposed the oppressive policies on the innocent people and snatched their right of self respect and dignity by making them slave of foreign traders. ‘The recruitment policy is the major evidence of the atrocities of state coalition Govt. on the innocent masses of the JK and other side the union Govt has played a shameful and inhumane role to make the scrap of freedom of Indian people by allowing the 51% flow of FDI to appease their western masters, speakers alleged. |
