Biting cold, coupled with power failure affects life in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 1 :Biting cold, coupled with frequent power failure has affected life in the Kashmir valley, where Pahalgam was the coldest.

However, due to cloudy weather the minimum temperature improved considerably.

A Met department spokesman said weather will remain cold and dry in the state with haze in some areas during the next 24 hours.

He said there would be no large change in the weather during the next two days.
Spokesman said sky will remain generally cloudy with mist and haze in summer capital, Srinagar tomorrow.
Due to cloudy weather, the minimum temperature in the Kashmir valley has witnessed improvement.
Against minus 2.2 degree minimum temperature in Srinagar, it was minus 0.2 degree, one degree above normal this morning.

There was considerable improvement in the minimum temperature at world famous health resort of Pahalgam, about 100 km from here in south Kashmir. It was minus 1.6 degree this morning against yesterdays minus 4.5 degree, he said.

Similarly minus 1.0 degree at famed ski resort of Gulmarg was 2.4 degree above yesterday when it was minus 3.4 degree.
Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, which had recorded minus 4 degree yesterday witnessed minus 0.8 degree, an improvement of three notches.
However, frequent power failures across the Kashmir valley has badly affected the normal life.

Reports of power cuts for more than six to ten hours were received from different parts of the valley, evoking protests by people.

Even metered areas in the uptown alleged power failure for hours without any prior information.

Residents of Batmaloo and adjoining areas in the heart of the city alleged that there was no electricity for the past 14 hours.
Ladakh region also witnessed improvement in the minimum temperature due to cloudy sky.
At Leh the minimum was minus 8 degrees against minus 11 degrees yesterday while border town of Kargil recorded minus 6.6
degrees against minus 7.2 degrees yesterday.
