12/1/2011 11:47:01 PM
Early Times Report
NEW DELHI, Dec 1: Army chief General VK Singh will be on a day's visit to Leh tomorrow to take stock of the security situation in the region sharing boundaries with both Pakistan and China.
The visit comes a few days before the Annual defence Dialogue between India and China starts on December 9 here.
The army chief is expected to be briefed by the local commanders about the situation on both the eastern and western fronts there and the preparedness of the forces deployed in the region.
The Army Chief had visited Leh and the Siachen Glacier last month also when he had interacted with commander and the troops of the 14 Corps.
The 14 Corps was raised in the aftermath of the Kargil war between India and Pakistan in 1999 and has been entrusted with the task of looking after the country's mountainous borders with Pakistan and China.
In recent years, activities along the eastern front have increased due to incidents of transgressions by Chinese troops into Indian territory.
