Senior citizens too are part of society: Kuldeep Raj Gupta | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 2:In the present days of fast and so-called modern life style, the senior citizens are being ignored even by their close ones as a result of which they have been made to suffer at an age when they need attention, care and affection most. This was stated by BJP Senior Citizens Cell State Convenor Kuldeep Raj Gupta while addressing a press conference at party headquarters on Friday. Kuldeep Raj Gupta said that as per the Census of 2001, the strength of Senior citizens in the country was nearly 11.5 crores. Since the longevity of life of average Indian has increased, and the Census of India, as per 2011, has shown the strength of Indian population as 121 crores, the total strength of senior citizens has touched nearly 15 crores. Gupta said that majority of these senior citizens are generally considered to be the opinion makers in their own areas. To raise the voice of this very important segment of the population, BJP has an important wing namely “BJP Senior Citizens Cell”, which have been framed to look after their difficulties and agitate for their major demands including security, health care, medical insurance, pension He said that the minimum pension of Rs 1000 per month should be allowed for all the senior citizens throughout the country, since the prices of all essential commodities have increased by far. Kuldeep Raj Gupta appealed all the sections of the society to work for mitigating the sufferings of the senior citizens and educate the young generation to recognize the fact that senior citizens are part and parcel of Indian society.
