Govt to have third-party monitoring of development projects

JAMMU, Dec 2:The State Government will bring all its infrastructure projects, particularly power projects, under third-party monitoring to ensure transparency and timely completion, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said today.
"The third-party monitoring, scanning and analysis by independent agencies are essential for ensuring transparency and timeline completion," he said at a meeting in New Delhi, according to an official spokesman here.
"My highest concern is to bring in lucidity in government functioning and transparency in the financial transactions by various departments," Abdullah said at the meeting to receive an appraisal of the initiatives worked out by consultancy firm McKinsey on power reforms in Jammu and Kashmir.
"The company has also to identify the bottlenecks and suggest solutions for their removal so that projects are completed within the prescribed time frame and in accordance to the specifications," the spokesman said while releasing details of the meeting.
"The company has also been entrusted the monitoring of mega projects under execution in power sector in the state. The company has almost completed its report and is likely to submit it to the state government soon," he said.
At the meeting, McKinsey officials presented a resume of the initiatives and the strategy worked out for the sector.
Among the projects the company would be monitoring, are the 1,000 MW Pakuldul, 600 MW Kiru, 500 MW Kawar 450 MW Baglihar-II, 240 MW Karthai-I, 990 MW Karthai-II, 1,200 MW Sawlakote, 93 MW New Ganderbal, 48 MW Lower Karnai and 60 MW Parnai projects.
