Educate children about AIDS, drug addiction: Sham

JAMMU, Dec 2:As a part of World AIDS Day celebrations, an impressive awareness programme was organized by the Lawrence Public School, Sidhra near here today.
Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma was chief guest on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said that moral education to the students can play a pivotal role in eradicating the dreaded disease like AIDS from the society. He said teachers and parents have great responsibility and they should educate the children about the social evils including the danger of incurable disease AIDS, besides the academic activities. The parents should be friendly to their wards and give them sex education, apprise them about the rich Indian culture and civilization to save them from falling prey to AIDS and other drug addictions, he added.
Advocating for a strong movement against the AIDS and drug addiction, the Minister said that a massive campaign should be launched in every nook and corner of the State to educate the general masses about the disease and its preventive measures.
He appreciated the efforts of the school management for arranging such an impressive and educative programme through the school children. The students presented scintillating cultural bonanza covering different themes related to social evils and AIDS, which enthralled the audience.
Project Director, J&K AIDS Control Society, Dr Rakesh Khajuria and social activist, ID Soni also addressed the gathering and called for collective efforts to deal with this sensitive issue.
Controller, Drugs & Food Control Organization, Satish Gupta, Director Health, Dr Madhu Khullar, Director Family Welfare, Dr T K Moza, Director Floriculture, K K Sharma, Director Horticulture, J N Sharma, Wing Cmdr M M Joshi, large number of doctors and school children were present on the occasion.
The Minister also distributed mementoes to the participants on the occasion.
