EAF flays Govt for allowing road construction in Bahu Forest Range

Jammu Dec 2: Jammu and Kashmir Based NGO Environment Awareness Forum (EAF) today criticized the government for allowing construction of road up to Mahamaya Temple in Bahu Range despite ruling of Apex Court in its judgment 12/12/96 described what is forest and how to protect it.
According to Bushan Parimoo President EAF is a violence of Wildlife Act as well as the various orders issued by Honorable Supreme Court. He said that honorable SC in has land mark judgment Dated 12-12-1996 in case between EAW and State of Jammu and Kashmir Govt. under Civil Writ petition No:171/96 for the first time has described what is forest and how to protect it. NGO stated that his organization is still continued its fight in Court of law to not only protect the forests of Jammu and Kashmir, but in India and aboard as well.
Bushan said as per wildlife forest act which has been duly approved by Honorable Supreme Court that in no case wildlife area can be put to any other use other than protecting the forest wealth and its flora and fanna and Bahu forest range where the construction of road is going on that can witnessed from the presence of machinery has been declared as Wild Life Area even prior to independence by Mahraja Partap Singh. He said that in order to save the green treasurer his forum will file RTI against the construction of the said road from National High to Mahamaya temple in which they will seek the reply from the forest department that on whose instruction/permission the said road project has been approved, which according to Bushan is in total violation of various SC’s orders issued from time to time regarding protection of forest in state.
