BAJ strikes enters into seventh day | Protesting lawyers gherao Office of Advocate General | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 2 : Today on sixth day on going strike of the Bar Association Jammu took new turns when the agitated advocates Gheraoed the office of Advocate General of J&K at Court Complex Janipur. Due to the strike of lawyers the work in the High Court Jammu Wing and Subordinate Courts suffered. According to the General Secretary BAJ, Vikram Sharma that ongoing strike against the issue of transfer of registration powers from Judicial Officers to the Executive Officers entered its 7th day today with Lawyers across the State of J&K abstaining from appearing in all Courts to press for their demands. Divesting the Judicial Officers of their powers of registration of documents is being opposed by Lawyers as the ill advised move of vesting the registration powers with the Executive Officer is replete with serious repercussions against the interests of Lawyers in particular and public at large in general. Bar Association Jammu today took strong exception to the non co-operation by Law Officers of the State and to enforce their strike, the agitating Lawyers today Gheraoed the Advocate General in his Office which went on for an hour. Led by President BAJ BS Slathia protesting lawyers urged the Advocate General to respect the decision of the General House of Bar Association Jammu and instruct the implementation of its decision to continue with the strike in letter and spirit. The Advocate General assured the Bar members of full co-operation and an early redressal of the Lawyers’ grievance. Meanwhile Bar Associations of Reasi, Udhampur, Katra, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Ramban, R.S.Pura, Samba, Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri and all Muffasil and Bars supported the resolution of the General House of the Bar Association Jammu and decided to continue with the strike till Dec 7.
