SAD (National) demands reservation for Sikhs | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 2:Shiromani Akali Dal National reiterated its demand for reservation to Sikh community on the pattern of reservation in Govt. jobs and professional institutes for the Muslims in the States of Jammu Kashmir, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. While addressing a joint Press Conference, Gurdev Singh working President, alongwith Gurbachan Singh Dutta President, Dayal Singh Wazir, Gen. Secretary, appreciated the Govts. of the states to provide reservation to Muslim minority community in various states. He strongly condemned the J&K state coalition Govt. for adopting callous attitude towards state minorities particularly Sikh for not taking seriously the legitimate and long pending demand of Sikhs to be declared as Minority Community as Govt. has been approached many times and regretted that Govt. did not pay any attention towards this legitimate demand which is highly deplorable and condemnable. He said that Sikhs are thinly scattered throughout the state and continue to be backward, economically, socially and politically and have no representative character in the Legislation thereby being denied legitimate rights due to them as per the article 14, 28 and 30 of the Indian Constitution. He further said that Ranganath Mishra,. Sachar Pannel constituted by Govt. of India have also recommended reservation based on distinct culture and religion for minorities.
