FCI trade unions allege arrest of three colleagues illegal
12/2/2011 10:53:18 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 2:All Trade Unions of Food Corporation of India (FCI) in J&K have decided to go on indefinite strike against illegal arrest of their three colleagues by J&K Crime Branch for no fault of theirs.
Police had come to FCI regional office Jammu to inquire some procedure of work in FCI from these employees required in general case registered against them by some unknown persons.
They had even been provided with a room by FCI in regional office Jammu for this purpose because neither FCI nor FCI employees are against any investigation, rather prepared for any investigation in presence of Vigilance branch of FCI or any other agency.
But to our surprise they instead of any inquiry /investigation in FCI office, forcibly took away these FCI officials to some unknown place as if they were militants .This has resented by FCI management also vide its letter No. Vig/J&K/GC/Vol-2/2011 dated 1.12.2011 to commissioner secretary CAPD-J&K Jammu with copy to Divisional Commissioner and IG Crime Jammu.
All the unions of FCI in J&K has taken it very seriously and termed the arrest as an attack on democratic rights of innocent and peace loving employees.
It has been decided by all the Unions to go on an indefinite pen down /shutter down strike till their colleagues are released unconditionally and action is taken against the erring police officers of J&K Crime Branch who have no jurisdiction over FCI being a central govt. organisation.
The members of the Unions said that the police held the innocent employees without any arrest warrants and proper permission of FCI authorities especially when they have been arrested from FCI office during working hours.
Unions urge the Chief Minister to direct the state bureaucracy to act according to law full and democratic norms especially with Central government organisations like FCI which is serving round the clock even in difficult conditions to maintain the supply line of the state.
The unions, through this press release, conveyed to the government that while the employees of FCI are very keen to serve the nation with dedication but any hampering of food grain supply due to high handedness of J&K Police (Crime Branch) will be responsibility of police authorities.
