Oldest centurion of J&K dies at age of 108 | | | Jammu: A centurion died at his home in Reasi on December 1, identified as Zail Singh of Gajore Pouni, Tehsil and District Reasi, died Thursday morning is believed to be oldest centurion in state, sources said. According to sources the 108 years old Zail Singh was a cadet in the army of Maharaja Hari Singh, who also served as a Zaildar of 21 villages of Pouni Block in Reasi till 1947 which is equivalent position to MLA. 'He was very close friends of the first Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Mohd Sadiq, another mourner of the village added. Locals recalled that when he attained life's 100 years in 2003, he was congratulated by none other but senior Congress MP and crown prince Dr Karan Singh who personally visited his residence to convey congratulation to him. Besides this in 2004, former Minister Jugal Kishore in a function organized at Reasi felicitated Zail Singh for completing 100 of his life. Thousands of people thronged Zail Singh's funeral in his home town at Reasi and prayed Almighty to give him peace in heaven. According to family members, the centurion called his sons on Thursday morning and said 'Muje Nichey Uttar Do, Mera Jane Ka Samay Aagaya Hai' (Get me on ground as my destiny time has come). |
