Political lull once again in J&K : Diversionary tactics diffusing issues | NC managing to pull its cart smoothly….? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 2: After series of developments enveloped in controversial issues in recent past, J&K's political scenario is witnessing a political lull these days. The clamour over corruption that reached its crescendo with opposition parties getting many new things to whip up that came as handy under the fold of Haji Yousuf death , has faded gradually from the scene. The tantrums of ruling ally Congress thrown at its partner NC over AFSPA and the issue of rotational Chief Minister that got louder last month have also fizzled out from the political scene for now. And the BJP's lung power rhetoric on seeking Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's resignation on a host of issues and failures on key counts has vanished from the air suddenly. There is absolute lull on political waters of the state that remains hot otherwise always on one or the other count. When the political scene heated up last month with antagonizing utterings from both within the coalition partners as well as the heightened attacks from opposition towards the NC led coalition, there were speculations rife that J&K was in for some 'hot' political developments soon and the month of December was pitched as most crucial in terms of coalition and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in particular taking some vital decisions with regard to ever controversial AFSPA revocation , some steps related to possibility of reshuffle in his cabinet as the government completes three years and most significant in terms of probability of Congress High command finally making up its mind on what the J&K leadership and cadres have lately been pressing for- the change of guard . While the month of December has just set in and there is still the entire month to go but the direction and pace with which things are moving at present hardly suggest any forward movement, not to speak of any big change in the political environment that exists now. Though PDP, the principal opposition party is trying to keep the pot boiling in terms of taking on NC led coalition on a host of issues but it has not made any impact so far as the NC leadership has deftly managed to divert the attention of people towards the issues like AFSPA revocation on which both regional parties share almost equal concern on similar lines . While this controversy is still under debate , pushing aside all other issues like Haji Yousuf death, corruption within the NC for political posts, the Chief Minister has opened up yet another chapter, rather given new twist to the whole issue with his proposed move to amend CrPC in order to what he says would address Army concerns over revocation of special powers they were given under two Acts in the state. The opposition and its rival PDP is now engaged in raking up fears and apprehensions of people of Kashmir . In other words, NC has succeeded in diverting the attention of both people and PDP from main issues that would have gained momentum and generated heat against it. This is being seen as diversionary and diffusing tactics of the ruling party to pull its cart smoothly in rough political climate. |
