State level RTI training program continues for 2nd day

Jammu, Dec 3:The three days state level RTI training program organized by Sangarsh RTI Movement in collaboration with CHRI New Delhi today continued for day 2 at Institute of Engineers, PWD guest house, Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
The workshop started with the rapporteu0rs read by Puneet Gupta, CA student and Asst. Professor Upasana, department of law, KC Law College. Followed by rappourter the highlights of the day were interaction with the international RTI Expert Venkatesh from Common wealth Human Rights Initiative who illustrated the various sections and sub sections of the JK RTI Act 2009 which consists of 27 provisions.
All the participants and the RTI activists raised various queries to the expert and cleared their doubts regarding the proper implementation of the act.
The participation of various people from the legal fraternity made the interaction more informative and productive .
Venkatesh and RTI activists of Sangarsh movement including its convener Balvinder Singh, Raman Sharma and Ayaz Mughal also elaborated section 23 of the Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information Act 2009 which reads as that it is the responsibility of the government to prepare program and arrange finance and other resources for proper implementaion of the act.
The participants also expressed their grievances with regard to non availability of the copies of the Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information Act 2009 and JK RTI Rules 2010 in local languages.
In post lunch session, participants also shared their personal experiences with regard to RTI Act.
Darvinder Singh of Sangarsh RTI Movement who hails from remote village of Batote of Ramban said that in rural areas a very little has been done by the state government for the awareness of the act he informed that though the PIO’s are designated there but the citizens are unaware of their fundamental right i.e right to know.
The program was attended by people from all walks of life, i.e advocates, social activists, journalists, sarpanches, academicians, member spiritual and volunteer organizations, senior citizens and students.
The invitees from JK RTI Movement , Srinagar including its convener Muzaffar Bhat, Shiekh Ghulam Rasool, Shafiq Mir and Lokesh Sharma also remained present during the day program. Narottam Sharma of Kshitij foundation, (RTI group) also attended the program.
