Sham inaugurates free Polio Corrective Surgery camp at Katra Lauds organizers for philanthropic efforts | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATRA, DECEMBER 03 – Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma today inaugurated 14th free Polio Corrective Surgery Camp, organized by the Radha Krishana Charitable Trust & Rotary Club Ghatkopar, Mumbai at Katra. The objective of organizing this camp is to treat polio related cases from across the State by the super specialists from Mumbai and Jodhpur. The Trust has been organizing the camp at Katra for the last 14 years constantly and till date; over 2000 rare polio surgeries have been performed by the doctors. The present camp that informally begun here on 1st of December and during first two days over 200 patients from different parts have been registered for polio related treatment. Over 100 surgeries are likely to be performed in the camp. The facilities of free food, medicines and accommodation have been made by the organizers. Various local social organizations and health department are supporting the event. Lauding the efforts of the organizers for this noble cause the Minister said that the Trust and Rotary Clubs have been engaged in the philanthropic services for pretty long time and thousands of needy people have been benefitted by their tireless efforts. Describing human service is service to the God directly, he said the people who have come here after covering long distance have been doing selfless service and this will inspire others to do the same voluntarily, he added. He assured all possible support to the organizers from the Government for making the event a success. He also appreciated the gesture of local participants, including Kewal Padha and Surinder Khajuria for their valuable contribution in the event. He also had a special word of praise for the managing trustee, Dr. Mahesh Parikh and his team for their tireless efforts to help the polio-riddle cases across the country. He asked the local administration to extend all help to the organizers for performing the surgeries and other things. While highlighting the measures initiated by the Government to upgrade the healthcare facilities in the Katra town, the Minister said that the Katra hospital has been fully equipped to provide all type of diagnostic facilities to the patients. He said this ultra modern hospital has been constructed with an estimated cost of over Rs.10 crore in a record period and would take care of the requirements of lakhs of pilgrims visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji darshan from across the world, as well as local people. Dr. Mahesh Parikh also addressed the gathering and apprised about the activities being undertaken by the Radha Krishna Trust and Rotary Club Ghatkopar. He thanked the local administration, especially the doctors of Katra hospital, police and social organization for their whole hearted support in making the event a successful. He said without local support the things are not possible. He also thanked the Minister for gracing the occasion. Prominent among those present on the occasion included, Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Mr. P.K.Pole, Additional CEO, SMVDSB, Dr. Mandeep Bhandari, Director Health, Dr. Madhu Khullar, Controller Drugs, Mr. Satish Gupta, ASP Katra, Mr. Mohan Lal and prominent citizens of the area.
