BJP leader Kuldeep Gupta calls on DGP
Expresses concern over attempts to revoke AFSPA
12/3/2011 9:05:43 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 3:BJP Senior Citizens Cell State Convenor Kuldeep Raj Gupta, who called on Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda in his office chamber, expressed concern over the continuous attempts to withdraw army and revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
Kuldeep Raj Gupta told DGP that it is due to the presence of army in far flung and remote areas of Poonch and Rajouri districts that the people feel secure.
Like other parts of the state, the militancy in these twin districts too caused loss of innocent human lives. A common man can not counter the militants carrying modern and sophisticated weapons. Even the J&K police too can not stand before across the border trained militants without the active help of the army men.
Gupta further told the State police Head that it is only due to the untiring anti-militancy operations that the situation in Poonch and Rajouri districts has returned to some normalcy and that the time has not come when the army is withdrawn or AFSPA is revoked.
Such an action at present will prove to be dangerous as there are reports of repeated attempts of infiltration on borders.
Instead of making unnecessary controversy over the issue, it would be better if VDCs are provided more financial aid and strengthen them with modern weaponry. He expressed hope that the matter will be looked into seriously and made clear by the government that army and its special powers will continue till the state is freed of last single militant.
