Advanced training courses for cops to tackle terrorism: Khoda | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 03: DGP Kuldeep Khoda today said an "ambitious" plan had been chalked out for conducting advanced training courses for J&K police jawans and officers. During the training period, the focus would be apprise the police personnel of the ways to effectively deal with militancy, and law and order situations, he said at the valedictory function of vertical interaction course on “Tactical Preparedness for Countering Terrorism’’ at police training academy (PTA) in Udhampur. The course has been organised by PTA in collaboration with Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). Khoda said other measures, like modernization in respect of equipment and gadgets, and investigation were also receiving high priority. He claimed that the state police was at par with the premier police agencies of the country. "We are focussing to make JKP a model police force in the country," he asserted. During the six-day interaction course, several professional experts from various states of the country and J&K participated and interacted with the officers and delivered lecturers. Lecturers on changing nature of terrorism, use of command vehicles, counter-terrorism operations and law and order situations were also delivered. The DGP said, during the interaction, the major themes highlighted by the speakers were the continuing threat that India in general and Kashmir in particular faced from the neighbouring establishments and other elements despite the significant decline in violence in J&K. He said the force had to increase its proficiency at various fronts of policing to enhance the image of the organization. He said the training imparted to the jawans and officers in using non-lethal equipments would help them in controlling situations without causing any damage to the human lives. Earlier, PTA director A K Gupta gave a brief resume of the training activities of the academy. Later, Khoda inaugurated the second 2nd national painters camp-cum-workshop under the civic action programme and commissioned a welfare centre and library in the academy. Among others, the function was attended by IGPs -- Dilbag Singh and A K Choudhary, DIGs -- Alok Puri, Jagjit Kumar and T Punchok -- SSP (Udhampur) Shakeel Ahmed Beigh and AIGs -- Ghulam Hassan Bhat and Nisha Nathyal. The 6-day workshop would conclude at Patnitop on December 8.
