Symposium on AIDS awareness organised at Model Academy

Jammu, Dec 3: Model Academy, the prestigious school of MIER in collaboration with the Rotary Club Jammu organized a symposium to celebrate World AIDS Day on the theme ‘Have Schools done enough to spread AIDS Awareness’.
Sanjeev Verma (IAS) Deputy Commissioner Jammu was the chief guest on this occasion whereas Arun Gupta chariman MIER was the guest of honour.
Rotarian Aseem Tandon President Rotary Club Jammu and Adit Gupta joint director MIER were also present on the occasion along with staff and students of the school and members of the Rotary Club Jammu.
Arti Bakshi, Head of the Psychology department, University of Jammu and Rupa Gupta, principal of the Model Academy Residency Road branch, judged the symposium.
Adit Gupta joint director MIER formally welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries.
He highlighted and appreciated the efforts taken by the Deputy Commissioner to improve the system of education and involving the various stakeholders through a dialogue in order to address the issues for improving the school system.
Speaking on the occasion Sanjeev Verma, IAS said that teachers and schools have an important role to play in eradicating the numerous evils of the society and also for spreading AIDS awareness, which has become a pandemic issue and affects children as well.
He exhorted the members of the educational community to launch a drive for making the students aware of this dreaded disease. He also called for training of teachers to deal with this sensitive issue so that students can be properly sensitized.
He congratulated Arun Gupta, chairman MIER for organising the programme in collaboration with Rotary Club and appreciated the efforts being taken towards promoting AIDS awareness.
Arun Gupta chairman, MIER thanked the Rotary Club for collaborating in this noble cause.
He also appreciated the student speakers for putting forth their points in a lucid manner.
Gupta gave the mantra that AIDS can be fought only with AIDS, which means Awareness, Information, Dissemination and Sensitisation.
Once these four things are done properly the menace of AIDS can be contained to a large extent.
Rotarian Aseem Tandon congratulated the speakers for their deliberations on the theme of the symposium.
He also thanked the management of MIER for collaborating with the club in spreading AIDS awareness.
He also proposed a number of projects that the two organisations could do together in future and also promised to establish a student chapter of the Rotary Club at MIER.
Vijay Tandon ex- President Rotary Club applauded the students and told them to work at grass root level to organize such events.
Dushant Choudhary, the immediate past president of the club announced the result of the symposium and proposed a formal vote of thanks.
Ekta Kalsi bagged the first prize, Second prize went to Aisha Sadaf and Shine Dogra bagged third place.
The programme was compered by Manju Vali.
