Disabled persons observes World Disable Day as black day Hold protest in support of their demands | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 3:The Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Welfare Association (JKHWA) held a strong protest outside Press Club Jammu on Saturday in support of their demands and observed World Disable Day as black day. Large number of disabled persons including government employees assembled outside Press Club Jammu and held strong protest against the alleged apathy of the government who according to them turned deaf ear towards their demands. They blocked the main road leading to Tawi Bridge near Dogra Chowk for quite some time before they were safely removed by the huge contingent of police present on the spot. While taking to the media persons, K K Verma State President JKHWA said that the list of their demands is lying with the government which is well within the knowledge of Chief Minister and his colleague ministers, but nothing has been done so far on behalf of the government. He said that due to lack of government attention towards their demands, there is unrest amongst the handicapped people of state. He said that due to government apathy, they were left with no other option, but to observe “World Disable Day” as black day in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that his organization will continue to fight for their demands till they get justice. The demand of the JKHWA includes office accommodation at Jammu/Srinagar, enhancement of monthly pension, and amendment in Govt. Order No: 62 SW of 2001 so that it could be brought at par with the central Govt. order allowing the job opportunities for handicapped persons in other Government departments as well , reservation of employment in vertical, allotment of plots on concessional rates, rehabilitation centre in all district headquarters of the State, provision of scooters, appointment of full time disability commission, health cover with special package, reservations in professional colleges, setting up of advisory board for physically challenged people and be given place in District Development Board meetings and 3% representation in all the District Boards constituted by the government for various classes of people.
