Vivekananda College organises pollution prevention day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATHUA, Dec 3:Vivekananda College of Education today organized a programme in connection with celebrations of “National Pollution Prevention Day” in its campus. Chief Guest of the occasion was Lal Chand, Chairman Pollution Control Board, J&K state. Other distinguished guests who graced the occasion were Regional Director Pollution Control Board Choudhary Shoukat Hussain, Distt. Officer Sanjay Rathore, Field Inspector Devender Singh , Dr Sudarshan Kumar Gupta Chairman Vivekananda Institutes , Dr Anju Sharma Principal of the College and lecturers as well as Principals of various Colleges and schools of Kathua District. Programme started with lightening of lamp by the Chief Guest escorted by other eminent personalities. In his welcome address Dr. Sudarshan Kumar Gupta said that conservation of biodiversity is important for us because it provide stability to the ecosystem. Soil formation, air & water purification, nutrient cycling, solar energy absorption & management of hydrological cycles all depend on biodiversity of life. Main attractions of the programme were welcome song, Dogri Dance, Skit & Giddha. Addressing the gathering Lal Chand said that extinction of species is of great concern because despite our increased ability to alter & restructure our surrounding people depend on other species in many ways. Extinction eliminates species from the planet. Earth is one intricate ecosystem of links by which all life is shaped. Lost one species and thousand others will be on the brink eventually threatening our survival.
