EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Dec 4: President J&K Awami National Conference (ANC) Khalida Shah has paid rich tributes to her father Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah on his 106th birth anniversary.
In a press statement from Delhi, Shah said that her political journey with her late father was deep rooted. “He was not only an institution by himself but also a great movement. His crusade against autocracy and sacrifice was long drawn and his incarceration of 22 years cannot be forgotten including the 11 year jail term of Kashmir conspiracy case.” Khalida Shah said.
She said that the factors that are important for a political movement are exploitation of society, poverty and lack of opportunities. These factors existed even before 1931 when the political intellectuals got together under his leadership to get rid of the injustices that were meted out to the people. She said that her father left no stone unturned till his death. Unfortunately after his departure, the direction of National Conference its ideology, principles and strategy changed drastically. She expressed her dismay at the weak leadership which has resulted in insecurity and helplessness with the people.
Shah said that the people face serious political and economic issues and ANC endeavours to awaken each and every citizen of the state regarding these burning issues and appeal them not to work for the furtherance of the political rulers, but strive for their own rights, dignity, security and prosperity collectively and stand united against menace of corruption and misgovernance.
