| Omar pleased with Pakistan visit | | Misconceptions about Pakistan done away with | | Srinagar, Mar 13: While as his maiden visit to Pakistan during Pugwash conference might have done lots of good to him in the otherwise hostile country, Omar Abdullah also feels that the certain ‘misconceptions’ about Pakistan have been done away with during his one to one with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.
In an informal chat with local news agency KNS, National Conference president Omar Abdullah sought to remark that his perception about Pakistan got considerably changed after his meeting with President Pervez Musharraf.
“Every misconception about Pakistan has been disposed off after one on one with Musharraf,” Omar said as quoted by KNS.
Omar briefly giving details about his meeting with Musharraf said that he invited Musharraf for a visit to Kashmir during his 45-minutes-long closed door meeting with him.
Omar said that Musharraf assured him that he would organize a meeting of cross-LoC leaders along with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Musharraf himself.
Showering praises over Musharraf, as reported by KNS, Omar said that Musharraf has an “open mind and a prudent outlook”.
Omar said that he discussed with Musharraf every solution in air these days.
“I discussed niceties of autonomy with Musharraf and he has been very encouraging towards it,” Omar said adding that Musharraf was of the view that self-governance and autonomy were very comparable and it depends, which name it’s given.
Omar said that he also discussed de-militarization and joint control (by India and Pakistan over JK) with Pakistan President.
Omar detailing his political travelogue to Pakistan said that he also held one on one with former Pakistan-administered Kashmir president Sardar Abdul Qayoom Khan and Muslim Conference president Sardar Ateeq-ur-Rehman.
He said that National Conference owes its origin to Muslim Conference and that during his meeting with latter’s leaders, they have decided that NC and MC would venture jointly towards the resolution of Kashmir issue and putting an end to the bloodshed in Kashmir
“Muslim Conference and National Conference will in the first instance jointly endeavor in saving people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Omar said while précising his outcome of his meeting with MC leaders.
Feeling content with the warm welcome he received in Pakistan, Omar Abdullah said that it was unforgettable.
“I felt happy with the way I was received in Pakistan and the welcome I got there is simply unforgettable,” KNS reported Omar as saying.
