Samaj Kendra expresses solidarity with handicapped association | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 5: Jammu and Kashmir Samaj Kendra has expressed solidarity with the various handicapped associations in the state for observing December 3 as black day. Kendra which runs a school here for deaf and dumb students has said that this was the only way to express resentment against the continued denial of rights to the physically challenged people. Addressing a meeting of the members, Kendra president Inderjeet Khajuria demanded that all the genuine demands of the disabled persons and their associations should be accepted. “Their stipend should be enhanced plus the wheel chairs should be provided to them. The quota in professional institutions and government jobs for the disabled persons should be enhanced and strictly implemented”, Khajuria said. He alleged that large number of physically challenged students from their school have passed matriculation and other higher examination but have been denied government job during the interview process. Khajuria said that at the moment, the school is being run mainly on donations from the philanthropists and contributions by the member themselves, as a result the teaching staff in the school is very poorly paid. However, the Kendra Members appreciated the role of the teaching and non teaching staff of the school who are serving the handicapped children selflessly, getting only nominal emoluments.
