CITU demands 6th Pay Commission for mine workers | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 5: Centre of India Trade Union (CITU) today demanded bringing coal workers under the purview of the 6th Pay Commission report so that they can face the present price rise in the essential commodities. Addressing a press conference, CITU general secretary, Om Prakash alleged that concerned ministry has always turned deaf ear towards the problems and demands of the coal workers, who are working in dangerous environment. He demanded that minimum wage of the employees should be increased as per SRO-304 and the settlement of remaining demands as per agreement dated March 15, 2010. Prakash said that as a mark of protest the workers had halted the lifting of coal at various mines on October 12 and they will continue to hold protests till their demands are not met.. “Consequently administration and concerned ministry had five meetings with employees and workers representatives but due to the callous attitude of concerned authorities the outcome was futile”, he said. He alleged that management and government is raising objections on the pretext that company is facing losses so they are unable to implement pay commission report. “We ask the state government who is responsible for the losses. There is no mining engineer, mining surveyors in the Kalakote mine. There is acute shortage of essential material including pumping motors which has affected the production”, he said. Prakash said that price of essential commodities has increased manifold and workers and employees are leading a pathetic life due to financial constraints.
