CM’s fresh ‘charge’ against PDP: Party supporting Army | Who is doing politics over AFSPA- Mehbooba or Omar…….? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 5: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, it appears doesn’t enjoy speaking without touching two things: parroting what he takes pride in saying his firm stance on AFSPA revocation and second ,strongly reacting to PDP statements, mostly on those coming from Mehbooba Mufti over the issue. Like an impatient and immature woe, he loses no time in reacting to her views afresh, as if to settle a score and gain instant points . Omar Abdullah has accused his political rival Mehbooba Mufti today of playing politics over the issue. The ‘charge’ is Mehbooba says differently over the issue while she is Kashmir , Jammu and New Delhi. Omar has apparently been hit by Mehbooba’s statement in New Delhi three days back in which not only commended Army and its role in ensuring security and safety of people but also advocated Army’s honourable exit. The punch line of Mehbooba’s uttering was that whatever Chief Minister was doing over AFSPA revocation, the move was being pursued in a haphazard manner and an impression was on ground as if he is hurry to ‘push them out’. Mehbooba’s praise for Army and the expressions like honorable exit have stung Omar to the extent that for the last two days he has been focusing his statements on castigating Mehbooba over the remarks. The Chief Minister first questioned Mehbooba sarcastically , almost seeking an explanation as to what she meant by giving Army an ‘honourable exit ‘ and even put counter questions that if she meant AFSPA should stay till the armed forces agree to its revocation. A day after putting such queries to PDP chief, Omar could not keep silent and once again touched upon the issue at a public gathering in Kashmir, keeping the former as centre of his sharp attack and criticism. Surprisingly Omar Abdullah while taking on his political rival, criticized the party by making a comment that should not have come, at least in his capacity as the Chief Minister of a sensitive state. While accusing the rival of indulging in double speak …..doing politics over the issue etc is understood in so far as settling political scores are concerned but asking PDP as to why they are supporting Army is something unbecoming and does not be hove well at a time when the entire controversy of revocation of the special powers are entangled over the fears and apprehensions expressed by the Defense ministry. By doing so Omar has brought the issue once again to the point where he started it and it is actually worse form of politics , an allegation which he is leveling against PDP. For he has not only agreed to the need and imperatives of debate and consultations with all stakeholders , particularly in the aftermath of its own ally Congress raising objections the way he conducted himself over the issue without caring to take their views before going public. Omar’s anger against PDP is over what he feels that the party talks in favour of revocation of this Act in Srinagar, its leadership keeps mum about it in Jammu and at Delhi. However, most brazen is when he accuses PDP on hard hitting point that they (PDP)makes the revocation of AFSPA ‘subservient ‘to the desire of the Army. PDP, on hypothetical basis , may be doing just for the sake of politics . That is what opposition is expected to do. But is not Omar and his party doing same and changing tones on such issues differently at three places….? The larger question remains is Omar as Chief Minister to indulge in such petty politicking …?
