Cabinet subcommittee meeting on power/NHPC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Dec 7 (KNS): An important meeting of Cabinet subcommittee on power/NHPC has been slated for tomorrow to finalize the modalities for power sharing and related issues with National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) while authorizing the corporation to control the projects other than Sal, Dulhasti and Uri-I on execution, operation and maintenance basis. Sources told KNS that an important meeting of the cabinet subcommittee headed by Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather with Minister for Irrigation, PHE and Flood Control Taj Mohiuddin, Minister for Rural Development Ali Muhammad Sagar and Tourism Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora its members to discuss and finalize the modalities for running the power projects and paving way to NHPC for obtaining license under J&K Water Resources (Management and Regulation) Act, 2010. The meeting sources said, was convened in the backdrop of the demand of Justice filed by a civil society member Bashir Assad on November 28 asking the government to intimate the civil society as what the government contemplates to do as the deadline for obtaining license under the Act has already expired. Sources told KNS that the cabinet subcommittee was likely to finalize the modalities for Uri-II and other new projects on the terms and conditions laid in the agreement for execution of Ratli power projects on river Chenab in Kishtewar area. Pertinently the civil society group spearheading the campaign for return of power projects to the state has given two weeks time to the government before the group moves to the court for legal recourse.
